Hi, I’m Ashton Swan—founder of WellFed Lactation Services, registered nurse, and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I’ve been caring for moms and babies in obstetric nursing since 2018, and supporting families during this season of life is truly what I love most.

I currently work part-time as a labor and delivery nurse, where I have the privilege of caring for families during some of their most important moments. Through that work, my passion for lactation grew even stronger. I completed my lactation education requirements through North Carolina State University and went on to sit for my IBCLC boards so I could better support families beyond the hospital setting.

Before starting WellFed Lactation Services, I worked in private practice as a contractor with Bee Nourished Lactation Services for over a year. That experience deepened my love for one-on-one, personalized care and ultimately inspired me to create my own practice—one that serves the community I live and work in.

I believe that every feeding journey is unique. There is no one “right” way—only what works best for you and your baby. My goal is to provide judgment-free, unwavering support, meet you exactly where you are, and help you feel confident and empowered in your feeding choices, whatever they may be.

Outside of my work, I’m married to my husband, Ross, and we live and farm in Brandy Station, Virginia. We have one daughter, Evelyn, whom I exclusively breastfed, and a sweet dog named Ellie Mae. When I’m not at the hospital or supporting families in their homes, you can usually find me out on the farm or soaking up time with my daughter.

It’s an honor to walk alongside families during this special time, and I look forward to supporting you on your journey.

My Approach

Every family’s journey is different, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to feeding. Whether you’re exclusively breastfeeding, pumping, combination feeding, or navigating challenges along the way, my goal is to meet you where you are without judgement.

I focus on:

  • creating realistic, sustainable feeding plans

  • addressing both baby’s needs and parent well-being

  • providing hands-on, practical support you can actually use

  • empowering you with knowledge and confidence
